Volkswagen Golf R Exterior
With the 2022 model year, Volkswagen unveiled the eighth iteration of the Golf. Although, Current model has a slightly longer wheel-base and slightly lowered stance. It still has the same 103.5 inch wheel-base as its predecessor.
This model has undergone gradual refinement rather than drastic change over the years. However, modern additions like LED lighting have been made. The Golf R is distinguished by its special illuminated crossbar, which adds to its unique look.
The R-design front bumper features two air intakes that are accentuated by a glossy black coating. These seamlessly blend into a central opening, improving downforce and air circulation while simultaneously boosting the car’s aggressive appearance.
The car appears closer to the road thanks to vivid side trims that match the body. 19-inch dark-hued alloy rims are fitted with performance summer tires on the Golf R.
Volkswagen Golf R Interior
The interior of the Golf R is simple and well-organized. Though it costs more than most, the cabin isn’t ostentatious.
In addition to providing heating and ventilation, the front seats have a 12-way power driver’s seat adjustment. Additionally heated are the back outboard seats. Nappa leather covers every seating surface, with the front seats’ backrests featuring a blue R emblem to draw attention to them.
These seats offer excellent support, which is further enhanced by fixed bolsters. Sadly, a driver seat extender—which would have been useful for longer trips—is not offered.
The car also has tri-zone climate control and a heated steering wheel. The Golf R has a roomy 19.9 cubic feet of cargo capacity, which increases to 34.5 cubic feet when the rear seat is folded down.
Safety and Technology
Infotainment systems that are easy to use are offered by numerous top manufacturers. The Golf’s interface has been simplified in its most recent version, with the majority of cabin controls now located either on the display or directly beneath it.
It now requires the use of a touch-sensitive pad to adjust the audio volume or climate control. It is not advisable to drive while using this new technique since it does require some getting used to and may be more distracting.
We believe that the best design is to have screens set aside just for infotainment. Furthermore, controlling the temperature and other in-cabin amenities with tactile knobs is still a tried-and-true technique that many people find intuitive.
Conversely, we think the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit is great. The 10.25-inch screen on this one has three views, one of which is navigation.
Driving enthusiasts may find it convenient to have the tachometer, engine boost pressure, and rev counter displayed front and center. Track star tools include a torque distributor for AWD, a lap timer, and a G-meter.
Volkswagen installs a nine-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system in the Golf R. Included are four USB ports, a charging pad, and smartphone connectivity.
Regarding security, VW’s IQ.DRIVE bundle is included as standard. Lane assistance, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert are all included in this package. Among the other features are park distance control, automated emergency braking, and front collision avoidance.
Performance
Volkswagen wants you to think about performance, When you think of “golf”. A 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine powers in GTI and R.
The GTI model powers front wheels with 241 horsepower & 273 pound-feet of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission is Standard. As an option 7-speed dual-clutch transmission also available.
With premium fuel same engine can produce up to 315 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque in the Golf R. These are same transmissions that are available in the GTI.
One notable thing is that Golf R has torque vectoring at the rear axle in addition to all-wheel drive. For increased stability. 100% of the torque can be applied to a single wheel in addition to the maximum 50% going to the rear wheels.
