2023 Toyota GR86 Prices
Three pricing tiers are available for the 2023 Toyota GR86: Base ($27,900), Premium ($30,500), and 10th Anniversary Special Edition ($34,360).
The 86 has a manual gearbox as standard. For the optional automatic, add $1,500. A destination fee of $1,010 is imposed by Toyota.
The 86 is a rear-wheel drive, 2+2 Grand Tourer. The anniversary edition has a unique paint job, forged matte black 18-inch alloy wheels, a cat-back exhaust system, and racing stripes on the back roof pillars. It is only available in 860 copies.
Our test 86 Premium model, which cost just less than $33,000, had an automatic transmission.
2023 Toyota GR86 Exterior
The Toyota 86’s tall hood, small cabin, and short rear deck give it the appearance of a sports vehicle. With its clear, straightforward lines, the Supra’s design drama is lacking from this one. Nonetheless, the practical vertical air intakes and mesh grille of this low-slung type dress the part.
Notable additional elements include a cascading roofline, sporty wheel options, and aluminum fenders and roof panels. When viewed from behind, the hunch is noticeable yet attractive. Notable characteristic elements are the diffuser and elevated lip spoiler.
The Premium trim level’s 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in grippy rubber replace the base model’s 17-inch wheels. With the Premium model, LED headlights become pivoting lights that may be adjusted.
There is a special Solar Shift Orange patina available for the 10th Anniversary model. It comes equipped with a desirable aftermarket feature as standard because of its distinctive cat-back exhaust system.
2023 Toyota GR86 Interior
A good way to describe the 86’s interior is cozy. To prevent striking the doorframe, you should ease yourself inside and bend down.
But the front seats are comfortable and supportive, and I believe they can fit someone up to six feet three inches tall. That is an approximation based on the furthest back the chairs will go and my height plus three inches.
Don’t worry about the back passengers; there could be seats for two back there, but they are rarely useful.
The dashboard features two prominent components that are easy to see and understand: a large touchscreen display and a digital instrument panel. Auxiliary controls, air vents, and knobs all have a circular design throughout the inside.
Drive mode and traction parameters are controlled using toggle switches. The front seats have manual controls and may be covered in leather or the regular fabric. Inside is heavily decorated with hard plastic components. Considering this device price, that is not surprising.
When the back seat is folded down, the cargo area significantly increases. This is significant because the typical trunk barely has space for a weekend trip, measuring 6.3 cubic feet.
Keyless entry, push-button start, full power accessories, and dual-zone temperature control are standard on all models. The Premium model is dressed with suede accents and heated front seats.
Technology Features
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and an 8-inch touchscreen are among the features Toyota offers on the 86. HD radio and satellite radio are included with a 6-speaker audio setup. At the bottom of the central console are two USB ports.
There is an 8-speaker stereo system and a 7-inch digital gauge cluster available. There are no features like a head-up display, a wireless device charger, or a Wi-Fi hotspot available.
Safety Features
Aside from that, safety features are often where Toyota and Subaru dominate as competitors. It is doubtful that these automobiles will undergo crash testing by the industry-backed NHTSA or the government-sponsored IIHS. In any case, the duo would likely earn a low score due to their size, weight, and characteristics.
Active lane control, adaptive cruise control, and automated emergency braking are available only on vehicles with automatic transmissions.
Other features that are exclusive to the automatic include front and rear parking assistance, automated high lights, forward collision warning, and pedestrian identification.
It is odd that automated high beams are not standard, even if some people might not find these features desirable.
Powertrain Choices
One notable change is the new 2.0-liter four-cylinder BOXER engine, which powers the current 86 instead of the 2.0-liter engine. Consequently, torque has risen by 18% and horsepower by 11%.
This engine, which is low and at the back of the engine compartment, has cylinders placed horizontally for improved driving characteristics.
The 86 generates 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Either a 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission transfers power to the back wheels.
Models with the manual transmission earn 20/27/22 mpg on city, highway, and combined EPA ratings. Automatic gearbox users achieve 21/31/25 mpg.
